How could a company worth $3 billion US dollars in 1991 file for bankruptcy a decade later? A truly American enterprise was founded in 1937 by Edwin H. Land that would later in 1978 be known around the world as Polaroid Corporation, fame due from the Polaroid camera. This discussion posting provides a little background history to the founding technology from a visionary CEO. One of the early products from Polaroid was sold to the US Armed forces, as so many products were during the years of the second World War. One of the Polaroid products for the armed services was designed to enhance night vision though infrared lens. Edwin Land created a polarizing polymer film. The sheet of synthetic plastic film transformed the images which helped to company finically and win notoriety. This basic founding technology is not integrated into many products like polarized sunglasses and other polarizing camera lenses (Lathrop,2020). The first commercially available instant camera, Model 95 was ...
Is 10 year old Port Wine an Expansion Discovery?  Serendipity This is a term learned a long time ago and I learned the meaning incorrectly.   For some reason I thought it meant one thing was supportive of another thing.   If I read a story and then asked to tell a story, I could then recall the story, so it was serendipitous for me.   But that is not the meaning at all, it really means discovering accidentally or while trying to discover or invent something else.   I say invent because that is a blog post I wrote about, then serendipity invention of plastic. Error This type of discovery or invention is like serendipity but with a slight shift in the “ah ha” moment.   The error discovery would be easier to explain with an example (or two).   I’ve read that George Crum is the inventor of the first potato chip. Hey don’t have to eat them, I don’t, but I love Frito scoops. The story I read is that a customer kept sending back their plate of fir...
All the money and time in the world  Education Learn to be the best instructor that always connects with each student, inspires the next generation, and learns from the generation that came before me. What I would learn is languages and the nuances between the dialects: French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese (because they are so close), Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Hindi, Russian (during intercept messages), Ukraine (because there is a difference) to tell them what the Russians are planning, better English. Job or Research I don’t want my hobby to become my job, then I may hate my hobby. I’d be a Cybersecurity research (after become a fantastic instructor), and reverse engineer malware, harmful code, I’d invent a free service to un encrypt Ransomware, I’d research the network protocol and the TCP/IP stack (does that count as 7?) to make each layer secure, research to make internet faster, research to enable free VPN, research to have a Password Manager that works a...

The Loss of Compaq Computers to Standard Forecasting Unit 6 - IP Marshall Copeland Colorado Technical University Futuring and Innovation (CS875) Professor Cynthia Calongne Feb 26, 2023                           Compaq computers are the market leader and losses from standard forecasting In 1991, Microsoft increased support for their Disk Operating System (DOS) 5.0, AT&T Computer Systems and NCR Corporation announced mergers, and Tandy Corporation announced plans to open superstores to sell Compaq computers (InfoWorld, 1991). The new stores would be called Computer City SuperCenters to carry products from Tandy, Compaq, IBM, and Apple computers incorporated. Less than a decade later, in 1998, Tandy Corporation sold its retail market to CompuUSA, which forecasted future growth on name-brand computer systems, some private label computers, and business sof...
Compare and contrast the concepts of scenario planning and traditional forecasting. Fully explain both concepts so that the reader understands the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of each. Scenario Planning Scenario planning is a process planning method that helps to better predict the future outcome by using feedback from key external pressures or external factors that put pressure on the topic. The external forces are then used to run alternate scenarios, again and again using changes from these factors and external forces.   The use of scenario planning first defines the topic or issue. Once identified and information that could change the outcome is clearly linked to the pressures of peripheral forces used in the process of predicting the change. There are peripheral forces that are measured to better run the scenarios and other indicators that must be taken into account to predict the outcome.  Predicting the future using planning techniques all invol...
The Invention of Bakelite (aka Plastic) Unit 4 - IP Marshall Copeland Colorado Technical University Futuring and Innovation (CS875) Professor Cynthia Calongne Feb 12, 2023                           Game-changing ideas that came from an error or accident. This class individual project is to explain how Bakelite plastic was accidentally discovered by a Belgian chemist named Leo Hendrik Baekeland. During the research, many early writings referend to Baekeland as the father of the plastics industry.   What is not as widely known is the details of the accidental discovery of plastic, the early uses of the product, and how it became a global pollutant product for planet earth (Calvert, 2020). Leo Hendrik Baekeland was born November 14, 1863, in Ghent, Belgium. He acquired a Ph.D. at the early age of 21 from Ghent Municipal Technical School and quickly became a we...
